Creature Feature Quarterly vol.1 (Black Hack Edition)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

13 new monsters with an OSR feel for your Black Hack game. I modeled the stat blocks after TBH 2e, but all these monsters should be quite compatible with TBH 1e as well.

In addition to the usual STATS, each monster has extensive FLUFF including Description, Tactics, Lore, Ecology and Seeds (adventure ideas).

As this is meant to be a DIY printed book I have included FOUR wrap covers. One black and one white (plus one ULTRA black and one ULTRA white).

Each download also contains Paper Minis and VTT Tokens of the monster.

The Publisher Preview shows you Table of Contents, first monster, last monster and Appendix: Monster by HD.

Also, much thanks to those of you that backed this project on Kickstarter!

In your update email, you asked if there was interest in a 3rd volume. I would be interested in one.

Doh! My bad... I thought I was replying to a question about the OSE line. Volume 3 for Black Hack is next in line though. ^____^

Regardless, I already backed the OSE campaign as well. ;-)

^_____^ Awsome-ness! Much thanks! By the way, have you seen my noodling with a Mork Borg conversion? They just released their third-party license so I will be working at that project more and more. The art-punk aesthetic is starting to grab me and I am considering re-making these Black Hack CFQs with full bleed art. It's a tough call as I also want to preserve the DIY-printable aspect...

I'm happy to support you. I run 13th Age, so I end up using monster stats as inspiration for my game of choice. Sometimes looking at multiple versions helps spark an idea for a mechanic that I wouldn't have thought of when looking at just the one.

I hadn't seen your Mork Borg discussions yet. I tend to do all my game prep digitally, so for me personally, the ability to easily print isn't critical. However, I'm just a single data point, so take it with a big grain of salt.

This is currently listed at $4. Is it normally $8?

It should have been listed at a sale price of $2. I adjusted it now. This is the second time the sale price disappeared. I think it has something to do with DriveThru's sitewide sale somehow adjusting the price back. It's weird, likely filters are crossed somewhere... dunno. It's also odd that I didn't receive an alert about your question in my Publisher's Hub. I've had problems adjusting prices since they moved to "the cloud". Lingering bugs perhaps? Anyway, thanks for your interest! Did you hear about this one from the Kickstarter for Volume 2?

Awesome. :^) Volume 1 went over bigger on KS, but I think I ran it as a Quickstarter with just a two week campaign. Hopefully Volume 2 picks up some steam here at the end. I've been busy with commissions and Patreon, so I've been pretty slack about posting updates on the Volume 2 KS.

I get a 404 error when I try to check out the full-sized preview. I came across the Kickstarter for volume 2, which said this one should be 50% off for the duration of the Kickstarter, but it looks like it's 60¢ off. Just wanted to make you aware.

Thanks for letting me know. I thought I had updated it already. Maybe the price reset because of the sitewide sale? For some reason OBS doesn't generate previews from any PDF I make in LibreOffice. So I usually create a separate shorter PDF preview and upload that as a Publisher Preview. The video preview at the bottom also is a pretty good sample of the product... but the audio is also a bit funky for some folks.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
