The Forbidden Caverns of Archaia 5E

Selected Option:

The lost city of Archaia - an ancient ruin sunken into the earth - lies deep in the badlands. In recent years, caravans from Eastdale have come under attack from orcs, goblins, and worse. Some say these blood-thirsty warbands have made lairs in the deep caves and ruins. Sill others say the ancient halls are filled with magnificent treasures left by the Archaians. Are you brave (or foolish) enough to delve The Forbidden Caverns of Archaia?

THe Forbidden Caverns of Archaia (FCoA) is a 296-page classic old school megadungeon for use with the Fifth Edition of the World's Most Popular role-playing games. THe pages of Forbidden Caverns are crammed full with new material, maps, amazing art (including special surprizes by former TSR artists), as well as an amazing colour cover art by Ex-TSR artist Erol Otus that matches Barrowmaze Complete 5E as a sister-book.

The Forbidden Caverns of Archaia will keep your players on their toes and your campaign going strong for years.

FCoA is brought to you by the Old School Renaissance (so don’t forget your 10’ pole).

I just bought on the offchance and the only 2 maps and its variants are hideous and dominated by the hexes and squares making it absolutely unreadable.

Sent back for a refund!

the whole book is black and white despite the amazing front cover artwork being in colour

The little reading seemed to be [also] dominated by references to barrowmaze. Was this a Barrowmaze supplement?

Really, there no option/ possibility to get all the Maps for VTT or else to present them to the players, without showing all secret doors etc..

I'm considering buying this to play on FoundryVTT : I understand from your comment that there are no players' maps in the package ?

Playing it currently. Love it sofar, even it's not as easy to get into than Barrowmaze.

Question: What is the difference between an Archaian Wight and a typical wight? This information is missing.

I bought the LL version of this but was considering buying the 5e PDF for the converted stat blocks. However does the 5e PDF have a bookmarked TOC and can you make your own bookmarks or is it secured (and so hardish to navigate) like the LL version? That would influence my buy-in price on the PDF.
Thanks.

For the record, LOVED Barrowmaze... so I'm hopeful that this will scratch the OSR itch (in 5E).

First though a few questions:
1. For what level characters was this created?
2. Also, in the one review (5E version) he says that there are dozens upon dozens of monster stats that are "missing". I saw the Youtube review (listed in Johnathan M's comment) of the OSR version (LL I believe?) and at the end of the hard cover book there are numerous monster stats. Is this what is missing from the 5E version? I'm a bit confused. I obviously don't want to spend $35 for an incomplete book.

Oh, you are referencing Questing Beast's video, I watched it and it got me to buy this product. I think perhaps you misunderstood what Ben (the "Questing Beast") said in his video (he said some people told him some things were allegeldy missing, but he had no personal knowledge of this).

In case, I have the 5e version of this product, and the monster and NPC stats are listed at the end of the PDF (I cannot speak about the hardcopy, but I would have to assume the PDF would have exactly the same content as the print version). The monster and NPC stats run from page 204 through page 265, so it seems all the stats are in there. There is also a full description of new spells and several other tables, etc. I have not noticed anything "missing." Maybe, there was some issue when the PDF was first released and it go corrected, or maybe this was all just misinformation to begin with.

Finally, with respect to player character level, the idea is that the players' start...See more

QUESTION.
In the chapter "Tribal Patrols: Encounters and Motivations" there is a table that describes tribal patrols and motivations (Table: 4.3). The section detailing Fanged Legion Patrols uses an uppercase letter L when describing the composition of enemy combatants. For example: (4) 2xL1 (8), 1xL2 (15), 1xL3 (22). What does the uppercase L mean?

Agree. Yes, for a $35 PDF I would really like a few preview pages. Sounds interesting though.

Questing Beast did a review of this on his youtube page, does a great job of going over it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
