Rogues, Rivals & Renegades: The Hierophant

A fanatic determined to reshape the world… The Hierophant!

A Power Level 16 Rogue, The Hierophant is an emissary from a mysterious force dedicated to transforming the universe. The Hierophant is an iconic character in the Beacon City universe, but can be dropped into any campaign with very little alteration.

The Hierophant’s file is designated "Black" to reflect his strange, occult origins. Once upon a time, he was a mortal man who lost his way and searched for answers to the deepest questions. Now he believes he knows the truth, and seeks to spread the word of Ex Machina wherever he goes. Whether he is mad, or truly empowered by some supernatural entity has yet to be determined, but there is no mistaking his power. Included in his writeup is his mechanical minion, Cog, a steam-powered menace in its own right. A truly potent presence, The Hierophant has already left his mark upon Beacon City. It’s up to your heroes to keep him from transforming the rest of the world into a reflection of his uncompromising vision!

Welcome to Rogues, Rivals & Renegades. Each entry in the series is designed as a villain, a potential ally with complications, or an outsider who might help the PCs one day and be at odds with them another. Each character has the potential to become a mainstay of your campaign!

Rogues, Rivals & Renegades are presented as files from a meta-human monitoring agency called METAs, with a loose frame story connecting them to Vigilance Press's own Beacon City setting. They are designed to drop into any setting with minimal effort, however, and the METAs commentary is written to give you a better picture of each character's personality and threat level. Each issue gives you a background for the character, commentary from METAs files, a standee to print and play with, and Hero Lab files for key characters!

Authored by Aaron Sullivan with full color art by Alex Williamson and Dionysia Jones, and layout by Ruben Byrd. Designed for the Mutants and Masterminds Third Edition roleplaying game.

This guy's another powerhouse. I imagine anyone he encounters is going to have a hard time dealing with him, especially tech based heroes.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
