Sorcerous Mishap [Dungeon World Playbook Bundle]

This collection of playbooks with wonderful cover art done by Nick Ladd has six new classes for the RPG Dungeon World. These classes utilize magic in ways that are equally traditional as they are practical. Which is to say, not at all. This bundle is dedicated to the failures of the magic world.

Failed Arcanist: It can take a lifetime to master the art of magic. Some devote years to studying its workings. However, not everyone possesses the capacity to endure what could essentially be described as an eighty-year long university courses. Those too young, old, impatient or stupid could never hope to finish such an extreme tutelage. This class is the embodiment of those who fail the study of magic, blending together a mixed tool box of powers with Murphey’s Law. This class operates through failing your rolls just as much as passing them. Expect a hilariously lethal time.

Hack Magician: You’ll tell all your friends you’re a master of illusions. Anyone you meet on the road you’ll tell them where you are preforming next. You’ll educate anyone on who you are if they haven’t heard of your amazing talents. Though you’ll be able to trick the masses into thinking you’re an accomplished spell caster, in truth you’re really just a stage magician. Use your cheap tricks to convince others of your sorcerous might, produce any objects or animals you need, or disappear before their eyes. But tricks won’t do it alone. It takes wits to fool people you have magic in a world where spellcasters walk around every day. You rely on a razor-sharp cunning that you can lethally exploit against foes who leave themselves open to you.

Knowledge Eater: You want to be a wizard, but you could never grasp their understanding of magic. They read from spell books and could use magic when they finished. Why couldn’t you? After fruitlessly researching through hundreds of magical volumes, you finally gave up and settled for the next best thing. If there is power in knowledge, eating the knowledge puts the power in you, right? You physically consume the words off of the pages you read. If you can’t properly understand and utilize spell books, just eat them and vomit their raw power back up at foes. You can also eat memories and information out of other people’s heads if the get too close. Have fun.

Living Clutter: Some great mage dreamed of creating an all-powerful construct, their magnum opus to stun the world with. Instead they built you. A magically bonded mess of furniture, dinner utensils, books, canes, barrels, pots, and anything else that wasn’t bolted down. Comes in a scale of small-medium-large, with the smaller end being quicker and easier to repair while large gains more damage and has to consume more junk to live. Besides clobbering fools, you also specialize in self repair and detaining others.

Saturated: Sharing much of the same logic train as the Knowledge Eater, what if you could obtain magical powers by just physically consuming raw magic? Well you tried and look what that got you. You are a slithering biohazard, a reactor of raw sorcerous potential. The magic was too great for your fleshy frame to hold without being altered. Its rigidness was lost and your body ‘flows’ in an unnatural half-solid/half-liquid state. Besides being able to slip through gaps others couldn’t, you can release your excess of magic to produce spell-like effects of uncontrollably channel pure magic into victims you grab.

Traitorous Apprentice: All your life you wanted to be a mage. Though you had no aptitude for magic, you sought out a skilled spellcaster to try and teach you their magic. No matter how much time your teacher spent with you, no progress was ever made in your training. Your teacher promised that eventually you would learn, but many moons passed and your teacher’s promise never came true. Consumed by bitterness and jealously, you murdered your master, stealing their power and sealing it into a spellbook you created. You are excellent at backstabbing and can cast spells from any playbook that uses them! However, the spellbook’s sealed power remembers what you did to its former master and doesn’t miss a chance to screw you over.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
