We used the Riverboad Adventure in our campaign. Our heros all died during the second encounter. As for the solo adventure, I still have not made it through successfully.

I only got this item for purely nostalgic reasons.

I bought and played this game as it came out. I loved it and it was perfect for a young aspiring DM [I Think I was 12 at the time].

It filled in for me between my regular D&D sessions, and more importantly i was able to solo play most of it.

I sometimes have trouble finding people who are available to play RPGs with me on a regular basis. When that happens, I turn to solo RPGs. While they are more prevalaent than they used to be, it's still kinda tough to find them. Tunnels and Trolls is one of the best ones I've found so far. It isn't hard to learn. It's a bit like a 'choose your own adventure' book, but even more fun since you can level up your character, customize what he carries and sometimes make decisions that are more than 'do this or that'. I highly recommend any of the T&T books. Whichever ones you get, you really ought to get this rules book to go with them so that you get the full experience.

I played Buffalo Castle and a few other solos with this when I was a young teen. It's a beautiful game, with just the right tone to encourage you to keep it fluid and fun.

I couldn't find my actual character, but here's a pretty close approximation of my most common character; (I always made a new one when they died in a solo, so they had short lives)

Combat in T&T is fun; I was skeptical, thinking it'd be lame with all those d6s, but there's something awesome about rolling a handful of them and rushing to see whether you or the monster rolled higher.

The Riverboat Adventure is great fun as an introductory adventure. I'm currently running this adventure with three newbies to RPGs and one veteran - all are having a blast and they can't wait to reconvene! And hey, it's free! (Note I'm not addressing the rest of the content in this book, as I haven't looked at it.)

This is a great entree into a great RPG system. It's fast, rules-light, quick to teach and the full Deluxe version has enough bits to it to make it into a solid long-campaign rules system without losing the rules-light and fast play aspects.

The DM adventure included in this set is the one I use to introduce new players to the game all the time. It does a great job of showcasing the open-ended mechanics of Tunnels and Trolls. It plays great for new role players, as well as for those who are used to other system's ways of doing things.

The solo adventure included is also very good, showing off the game from that perspective as well. Someone completely new to T&T can play it on their own, and be ready to DM a game for others.

Side note: Tunnels and Trolls was the first game to use the term "Dungeon Master" in print. It was the second published RPG as well. I originally ran T&T as a one-shot or short filler campaign game system in the 70s, current versions are well suited to long campaigns.

T&T is an easy fast to play P&P. And this is the condensed version of the complete rule set. The Rules are simple and kept very clean. In T&T character creation takes 5 Minutes. You only need a minimal set of paper to document your character. Fights are fast paced and simple. It's intended to be used in Solo-Adventures and Group-Play.

However in my perception the design of the rule set puts T&T clearly in the Hack&Slay corner. Of course it is possible to make deep roleplaying with each ruleset but T&T does not support or encourage such play. For a Solo-Adventure this is no problem - since solo-adventures are told differently - but for a group T&T might not be enough to keep them in the game with this rules for a long time, like a complex campaign.

This condensed ruleset comes with a free small Solo-Adventure. However all illustrations are missing from the PDF. But it's free, so who is complaining? :)

T&T is a classic old school RPG it's rules light approach was a breath of fresh air and if you ever wondered what all the fuss is about here is your chance to try them out for free.

T&T is already a simple game, so to "dummy it up" to even a MORE simple game seems redundant.

That being said its hard to complain about a FREE distribution even in this simple format.

I downloaded it out of curiosity (I already own a full edition of the game) and was neither impressed or disappointed.

So if you are looking for a DEMO of the full edition..... this should do the trick!

I remember how the Dragon Magazine and TSR guys were so upset about Tunnels & Trolls back in the day. I always thought it was a blatant copy that was a parody based on their negative remarks, but the modern era positive reviews made me finally download this.

This particular file is a bare-bone free preview. All in all it feels like a stripped down version of Original DnD. It also turns out I was sorely disappointed by the "Choose Your Own Adventure" solitaire mode. This little rulebook failed to make me sold on T&T, although the publisher's site and players swear by this game. For a free product, I wanted a hard sell. It felt like a 1970s/1980s Steve Jackson fighting fantasy gamebook- without his superb writing style.

Not sure why T&T is a good alternative to DnD at this time. Perhaps the simplified rules?

Some folks will probably discount this game entirely due to the formatting and layout, but what's hidden in here is a classic game that's very easy to pick up. T&T definitely has a sillier, more tongue-in-cheek feel than Dungeons & Dragons, but a loyal following online will tell you there's still plenty here to like.

There are two adventures included. The rules aren't what you'd get with Tunnels & Trolls 7th edition, but they'll work for solitaire products or just trying it out for beer n' pretzels gaming.

This is a good, quick intro of a product many gamers have likely heard of, but have never played.

Plain great nostalgis fun! I bought My first copy of TnT back in '77 or '78. Now, I am introducing My kids to gaming. We are having a great time. "Goblin Lake" is fun but very deadly.

Really good fun, and as other reviewers have mentioned, interesting from a 'history of RPGs' point of view. I love the fact that the game doesn't take itself too seriously, with spells like "Take that, you fiend!" and "Poor baby". The solo adventure is equally irreverent and excellent fun (and/but) completely deadly!
