As a new DM, I found this extremely helpful. It is manageable and offers a lot of additional userful advice.

This is the first in a very long series - like 100 adventure that were done over the past three years (or so). They get even better as they progress.

FINALLY... A widely available module series that understands 5th edition. Especially how to implement the adventuring day properly. Thanks. Looking forward to running the rest.

There are many things to like about this adventure. First, it is easily portable to any setting. It "launches" the Dimgaard campaign, but I've placed in Faerun. Also, it has appropriate opportunities for the DM to place treasure of his desire, but doesn't foist any treasure down the DM's throat.

Excellent adventure that stands the test of time. I've run it several times over the past couple years.

This is fundamentally not what I'd call an adventure: it's a series of fight scenes with scaling opponents; as other commentators have noted, the difficulty level seems off. There's not a world, not an actual meaningful location for players to exercise skill and agency upon. The author's grasp of the rules seems shaky and inconsistent. Treasure and xp are both sparse and seem miscalibrated for any edition of D&D; there are multiple places where the author has just left up to the DM how much treasure to include - abnegating authorship.

That's enough that I get no use for it, but the poor quality is further reduced by the editing (spelling errors, awkward writing) and problematic layout.

Creator Reply:
If you have a specific instance of something contrary to the rules, that would be very interesting. More likely you have made a mistake, and need to review 5th edition rules. Treasure is deliberately left the DM. As stated in the sidebar, treasure is a defining characteristic for a DM's game, and Dimgaard adventures are designed to accommodate as wide a range of play styles as possible; part of that is leaving almost all treasure up to the DM to decide. On a related fact, 5th edition leaves much about XP up to the DM, as well. If a DM wants faster progression the DM can award XP for traps aligned to the challenge the DM feels it presented to the party. Creature XP is more explicit.

I like the story idea, that worked pretty well. Good idea to put in the scaling, but I think you need to have a look at that.

The boosted abilities every monster get would easily lead to a TPK (the poison makes those zombies more of a CR 1 monster off the bat, and THEN you think about how many there might be.

The boosted spider really shouldn't have all those legendary actions if you expect to run a 1-2 level party through this, it will easily wipe away quite a large party, regardless of hitpoints. As written it makes the companion a monster they should run away from to try again in a few levels.

Much the same goes for the dragonborn, if he would have all you give him, the DM needs to keep in mind that he has no good reason to stay and fight, unless the PCs corner him. He would just be warned, deceive them if possible and then escape (add that to the "how to handle" text to add to the capturing of PCs to negotiate)

Also, I had trouble getting your maps to work in Roll20. I found just the 3 small, low res cutouts, not the complete map. And using it from the pdf doesn't give a great resolution either. In the end, I used a different map I found with roughly the same amount of chambers and used that.

I ran this as a short one shot, and was able to more or less run it on the fly, but I adjusted the two main villains, I warned them strongly not to go near the room where the last battle had been and luckily they rolled well to disarm the shrine.

Thanks for the adventure setup, but I think this needs a bit more work.

Played a slightly modified version with a DM using Mythic Fate. I found the encounter challenging.it really made me think about the way I used my resources. We're going to be running more games in this setting as well as trying out others.

It's a short little adventure but a good one. I'm currently using this in my campaign. The players have thus far found it very challenging, and their resource management really required some focus. SPOILER: They trap on the altar is almost enough to TPK a party, unless the DM rolls really low (I rolled a combined 3, those lucky gits...)

I really like the way this adventure scales, both time-wise (I was able to vary the number of encounters to fit my time) and difficulty. Very easy to run.

Very well done. I plan on using this soon and see how my group likes it. If it goes as I believe it will, I will be looking to get the others as well.
