Eclipse Phase: The Devotees (first edition)
by Alex S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/24/2014 20:27:43

This pdf would be worth the price for the treatment of Legba and Nine Lives, but the adventure itself is also awesome and full of interesting Stokesian easter eggs. Anyone considering a campaign that involves Nine Lives in a significant way should get this pdf, and anyone getting this pdf will likely consider involving Nine Lives in a significant way. A must-have.

This is just amazing, much like everything else Caleb Stokes does. If you liked this, you might want to check out 'Know Evil', an Actual Play Eclipse Phase campaign:

It's how I learned about how great Eclipse Phase could be.

Eclipse Phase: Continuity (first edition)
by Teos A. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/23/2014 17:29:15

I first played Continuity at Gen Con as a scheduled convention game run by a volunteer game. It was easily the highlight of that year's Gen Con. I've since then also run the adventure. As with so many of the Posthuman adventures, this delivers a really cool sci-fi premise. We start with the PCs being restored from backup... but what happened? Why is the space station/ship in such bad shape? It gets really spine-tingling and Aliens-like as PCs search for clues... and then they find out where their previous versions went. Spoiler... the previous versions are coming back, and they are changed! The material is really good, while being simple. There is just the right amount for GMs to just run-as-is, but the material is so cool that the GM will want to build upon it and add cool touches to what takes place. Players get to make really cool decisions and can handle the threat in different ways. The adventure can be challenging - one run ended in a TPK, but it was an awesomely fun TPK and everyone wanted to play more Eclipse Phase after it. I highly recommend this scenario as an introduction for new GMs and players, for running at conventions, and as a 'backstory' or flashback for a campaign. Like the excellent "Ego Hunter", the sci-fi concepts are super-fun and made tangible for both players and GM.

Eclipse Phase: The Devotees (first edition)
by Matt C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/23/2014 17:27:11

This PDF not only gives a fairly detailed look at the home of the Nine Lives soul-trading cartel, it also gives PCs a chance to critically harm what may well be one of the most disturbing and horrific criminal cartels in the system. Well-done, in-depth, and easily mined for ideas to seed across games before and after running it.

Eclipse Phase (first edition)
by Scott M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/24/2014 20:20:43

Quite honestly, this is one of the best games that has ever been written--period. The amount of work and dedication by the authors and artists must do to just publish a game like is immense; that Eclipse Phase is the quality that it is, given this, is amazing.

This is a hard-science fiction game depicting a Transhuman future. Human consciousness need not now be confined to a single body, and humanity now has the potential for "immortality." The game takes place a decade after humans were nearly destroyed by both themselves, and their creations. Now humans, and your players, must struggle against the silence of the void. Humanity must survive, and quite possibly only the PCs stand in the way of forces that will lead to our destruction.

On an intellectual level this game is brilliant. It creates a universe where many themes can be explored, but only as many as you want to. For example, it invites players to struggle with notions of ego and identity. What does it mean to be "you" when you are no longer confined to your body. For example, are you the same person if all of your life you've been a man, and suddenly you find yourself in an electronic shell with no body at all? What if you have a body, but the face is not one you remember? What if you were a man who suddenly found themselves in the body of a woman? Similarly, since you "uploaded" your consciousness, are you still you, or a copy? These are issues you could choose to explore in this game, or you could not explore them and just think of the bodies characters inhabit as specialized gear.

Eclipse Phase uses the setting to also set up a political world, which explores alternative modes of organizing societies and what happens when economies are no longer confined by scarcity. This is fertile ground for stories the explore these issues in depth, or just an amazing set piece for stories that stay away from the politics of the future.

And it Eclipse Phase does not end there. The game is so deep, addressing issues ranging from the meaning of sapience to animal rights, that it would take me 20 pages to do it justice. All I can say is that I have never regretted purchasing into this game line. It's genius and of the highest quality. The universe of Eclipse Phase is one of the most robust ever produced for a game, and Eclipse Phase books are filled with wonderful short stories, amazing art, and detail that just brings the setting to life.

The only downside to the game is the game mechanics, and they are not really that big of a downside. The system is a percentile "blackjack" system, where the goal is to roll under a target number while getting as close to that target as possible. People familiar with Call of Cthuhulu, Warhammer 40k RPG, or Palladium should have no trouble adapting to it's system. Plus, if you do not like the system, there a number of Eclipse Phase approved hacks of the Eclipse Phase universe to other RPG systems out there.

But, even if this were a d2 system that relied on non-linear or boolean algebra to run, I would still give it five stars. The depth and quality of the fiction and world building materials alone qualify Eclipse Phase to easily hold a position in my mind as one of the greatest RPGs ever written.

Eclipse Phase: Transhuman Hack Pack
by Daniel S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/27/2013 16:08:11

The product is great for Eclipse Phase fans who are helping new players into the game or for GMs creating new serious NPCs. The complaint I most often hear leveled at EP is that character generation is too complicated. This tries to make that a bit simpler, still a little bit complicated but easier than before. It also includes life path material for helping to flesh out the characters background. Not a bad product for the price really.

An incredibly useful add-on for the Eclipse Phase Line this offers options to simplify character creation while adding additional options and expanding the world base. The book itself is well written with gorgeous art and benefits from an involved development group.

Eclipse Phase: Interference
by John F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/23/2013 00:58:05

I'm a very solid fan of Eclipse Phase and have enjoyed all the storytelling in these books immensely. This is the first time I've purchased one of the stories separately - I'll pick up the Transhuman book shortly. Still, at .99 I couldn't resist a good story before I hit the sack.

This is the kind of storytelling that takes Eclipse Phase from simply innovative sci-fi to sci-fi HORROR. Here we find the psychological twist and paradigm-shattering ideas that stem from things like consciousness-transfer as software and the immortality of 'sleevable' minds and bodies.

In fact, 'Interference' is exactly what Eclipse Phase is all about. If you're curious about what a character can do in the world of this game, and what potentially can happen, this story is a fine first read.

Eclipse Phase: Transhuman (first edition)
by Andrew R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/16/2013 18:51:31

This book is possibly the most useful one to come out in the line since the initial rulebook. It contains new options for character creation, new backgrounds (including options for AGI and Uplifts that differ from the standard), new factions, new morphs, and most importantly tables containing the book and page number for every morph, every background, every option that has appeared in any of the earlier books. I would have paid $10 simply for that last one but I also got so much more. If you play Eclipse Phase I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Eclipse Phase: Transhuman (first edition)
by Kyle W. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 08/10/2013 15:28:37

Eclipse Phase is one of my favorite games, but I'm not beyond admitting that it has its faults, some of them pretty serious. For one thing, although there was a great range of morphs and the game really felt like it vibrantly embraced the question of not only transhumanism but the practicality of a diverse and exotic range of morphs, it didn't really feel like the rules did. Transhuman, which could best be described as their player's guide, does a great job of fixing a lot of those issues, and introduces a lot of new content.

The first thing I should emphasize is that unlike Rimward, Panopticon, Sunward, or Gatecrasher, Transhuman does not introduce new setting elements; it tends to expound on prior content, by providing deeper psychological and sociological background for certain things, such as the general perception of uplifts or the differences between different types of AGI. It generally adds a lot more depth to the setting, further refining a lot of the psychological things that can go on and clarifying the legal structures of the solar system in the years after the Fall.

Mind you, that's not to say that there's not new content in Eclipse Phase. There are tons of new things, from new morphs to rules diversifications, it's a very meaty book, containing everything from practical adjustments to combat to reflect the fact that a space whale functions very differently than a microbot in battle; Eclipse Phase's core system is such that it's not really possible to achieve a perfect granularity without explicitly relegating certain things to a different scale, but Transhuman does a pretty good job of modeling the differences between a novacrab and a neotenic, and while there will still be some things that fall outside the realms of plausible mechanics there is a lot more stuff here that really adds to the experience.

Looking at the book a little more objectively, it's about 240 pages of well-written content, and unlike Eclipse Phase's usual style a surprisingly large chunk of that is directly number driven, from the life path and package buy character creation systems and the new combat rules, as well as enhanced rules for swarms and other exotic morphs (including Flexbots), not to mention a variety of other non-combat rules for helping keep the game on track. Additional sleights for the asyncs also take up a portion of the book, though asyncs are covered mostly on the fluff side. One important note, though, is that the life paths are not meant to be balanced; as the note beforehand says, some characters will be lucky, some unlucky, so it's perfectly possible to roll a character who dies multiple times before the game even begins while another gets lucky and starts with everything going perfectly, something that GM's may wish to look out for if they maintain strict player balance in their campaigns.

I really did enjoy the book; the typesetting is Eclipse Phase's usual, which still remains fresh after well over a thousand pages, with plenty of color and vibrancy without causing any difficulty with legibility. The art is for the most part good though a couple of the faces caused an uncanny valley response; the majority of the art is of really good quality and really engages the setting well (though with a mite too much action for Firewall agents who want to get out alive).

If you play Eclipse Phase, Transhuman will make a great addition; it doesn't solve all the problems with the system, but it transforms the mechanics into something much greater than they were before while including plenty of new options to customize your game, and generally is a direct improvement, even if it does mean a little more complexity.

Eclipse Phase: Transhuman (first edition)
by Ciarán O. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/09/2013 13:49:47

If you already like Eclipse Phase, you'll like this. The short fiction is well-written and fascinating, the artwork is stunning and the new lore and rules they bring to the table in this book will almost certainly contain something that interests you, whether it be the new character generation options of just new equipment and loot.

Add to that Transhuman Studios are attentive and courteous enough to update their PDFs when errors are spotted, so you never have to go searching through errata to see if that's what the rules really said. Well worth a look.

And if you don't know what Eclipse Phase is, you should check out the core rules. It's a fascinating sci-fi horror RPG that makes outerspace genuinely terrifying again. Sublime stuff.

Eclipse Phase: Transhuman (first edition)
by Jason B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/07/2013 11:20:05

Another stunning book by Posthuman!

If you happen to be one of the many who had misgivings over how involved the PC generation of Eclipse Phase was in the Corebook, Transhuman provides not ONE but TWO fixes!

One involves putting together 'packages' of skills and benefits, while the other is a Lifepath Generation system, which can easily provide hours of fun!

Also, the book includes a wealth of new Positive and Negative Traits for character creation, new Morphs, and even a Morph Creation System!

It also has large sections on how AGIs, and Uplifts, have radically different outlooks and 'upbringings' in the EP world.

This book is a MUST-HAVE for any EP gamer!

Eclipse Phase (first edition)
by Joseph M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/01/2013 11:55:23

One of the best sci-fi rpgs out there in the last decade. And that's saying a lot when you factor in GURPS: Transhuman Space. But, the team at Posthuman Studios loves their work and they really graps the transhuman/posthuman elements of modern sci-fi. This setting has elements of Mythos horror, but handles it differently. Less strange magical aliens, and more strange technologies that we just don't understand yet. As far as settings go, it's not as hard as Transhuman Space was, but that leadway fixes one of the few problems that THS had. Lack of focus.

The key issue, the drive for PCs in Eclipse Phase is survival. Either on a personal level in the post TITANS era of dispora from earth, or on a species level when humanity kissed a singularity event and came away bloody but still living. Technology is your salvation and damnation. The real key, is how your characters deal with it.

Body swapping, AI life, aliens that are REALLY alien, and just enough WOW factor to make the game exciting. There is PSI powers, but they are handled interestingly...a dangerous legacy left behind by the alien AIs the TITANS became.

Mechanically it uses a d100 system that flows smoothly, but takes a little getting use too. It's serviceable. And that's GREAT! The 3rd Printing of the corebook (which the pdf is a copy of) has little mechanical tweeks and fixes that fix most of the weird early errata bugs.

The core gameplay has the PCs as members of Firewall, a 'save humanity at any cost' type group...and it works. But you will have the freedom to just explore the setting and culture.

Worth the price. Hands down. Fine book.

Eclipse Phase (first edition)
by Luca N. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/22/2013 07:30:12

The setting is amazing, intriguing and well written. The rules are easy, based on a 1d100, and they permitt to go from a fast (and extremely deadly) firefight to an hacking mission using the same concepts and mechanism. The character creation is based on few, important choises and Points to spend. it permitts to generate very interesting profiles and to play any kind of PG you like. Trauma and Stress enable to play horror stories and to see your players going crazy. The books are well made, well written and with amazing images. It's a mature game and I really love it.
