Hag Ride: A Campaign Frame for Mortal Coil

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Someone killed the Soileau sisters, Josephine and Genevieve. They owned Jo's Place, in East Caroll Parish, Louisiana. Lucille Johnson, proprietress of Jo's Place's rival juke joint, the Red Queen Cafe in neighboring Issaquena County, Mississippi, says she discovered their skins in a cooking pot in the Red Queen's kitchen. She makes no mention of how the skins arrived at her establishment without their innards. And when she saw the gruesome horror, she merely shrugged, sucked her teeth, and said, "Well, finally someone's done something about those hag riding bitches. Issaquena County can rest easy tonight-after we shut down in the morning of course!" And she laughed her deep swampy laugh, and rolled herself some Indian hop before she summoned her husband Baby Grand Anthony, the Red Queen's bartender, had him burn the skins, and toss the ashes in the Mississippi.

Hag Ride is a campaign frame for Mortal Coil. Set in a pair of rival juke joints in 1920s Louisiana, Hag Ride lets you explore a different sort of Southern Gothic, full of hoodoo and illegal good times.

Hag Ride is a fully sketched out setting in the form of a detailed theme document, with all of the world set-up choices written out in detail. The frame is customizable by your game group. You choose a tone, and pick the magic level that is appropriate for your game.

Campaign frames are great ways to do a quick setup for Mortal Coil, and are ideal for playing a pick-up game or convention game. If your players really like the setting, the frame can be used for a longer term game as well. A campaign frame is also useful as a how-to on setting up a unique theme document of your own.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
