Addon Token Package 3: Vietnam War

The Vietnam War (also known as the Second Indochina War) occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from the 1st of November 1955, until the fall of Saigon on the 30th of April 1975. The conflict was waged as a part of the larger Cold War that was being waged between the Democratic Powers (headed by the United States of America) and the Communist Powers (led by the Soviet Union). The Soviet Union and China supported North Vietnam while the United States supported the government of South Vietnam. This token pack is designed to support a campaign set in the war-torn battlefields of Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The pack gives you access to virtual tabletop character token sets depicting soldiers from the People's Army of Vietnam (more commonly known as the North Vietnamese Army or NVA), the National Liberation Front (NLF or Viet Cong) which engaged in gorilla warfare, and the soldiers of the United States of America.

Tailz
“Hello there! Published on the 3rd of October 2007, this is my third pack of virtual tabletop tokens. 3D-rendered characters were created for roleplaying during the Vietnam War era. This pack is from my first-generation method of creating character tokens, which uses an overhead method of rendering characters. This method has been superseded by my second-generation tokens and thus this pack is now permanently discounted.”
~ Tailz from Studio WyldFurr.

What is inside this Pack?

Inside this pack are several character token sets, each depicting one 3D-rendered character in a range of different action poses. For example: running, standing, sitting, wounded, and various combat poses. Each token is rendered from an isometric birds-eye view of the character, and output as a PNG image that maintains a scale of 3 pixels to each real-world inch (a 5ft character square is 180 pixels square).

Each character set contains a character portrait image of each character (100 pixels and a 63-pixel square portrait).

Character Sets within this Pack

Within this package you will find the following virtual tabletop token character sets:

  • American GI #1 (29 tokens).
  • American GI #2 (23 tokens)
  • American GI #3 (26 tokens).
  • Vietnamese NVA Male #1 (25 tokens)
  • Vietnamese NVA Male #2 (20 tokens)
  • Vietnamese VC Female #1 (18 tokens)
  • Vietnamese VC Female #2 (12 tokens)
  • Vietnamese VC Male #1 (16 tokens)
  • Vietnamese VC Male #2 (25 tokens)
  • Huey Helicopter (7 tokens)
  • 1 Token Scaling Aid.
IMPORTANT: This package is not a stand-alone game! It is a collection of image files that can be employed as character tokens inside a virtual tabletop App (such as FoundryVTT, Roll20, D20Pro, etc). Please check your applications documentation about how to use imported images as character tokens.

I realize this is an "old" product, but I think it will be very useful to me for PBEM games with a couple of friends overseas. The figures have some excellent (and a couple of weird) poses, and enough variety that a bunch together can look like different individuals. I really like them!
I would be very interested in a Part 2, especially if it contained:
US Army troops with M-60 LMG (standing, firing, prone firing, with a ammo loader)
US Army troops with M-79 grenade launcher
US Army troops with LAW rocket launcher
US Army troop with PRC-25 radio
US Army 60mm and 81mm mortars
US Army M113 APC, ACAV, and Mortar versions
US Army M-48 tank
US Army cargo trucks (2 1/2 ton and 5 ton)
NVA with RPD LMG
NVA with RPG-7
NVA 60mm and 82mm mortars
NVA trucks
VC with more varied outfits and weapons
a couple of civilians doing things like planting rice, plowing with a water buffalo, walking, sitting, etc.

Great...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
