PowerFrame is a universal toolbox roleplaying game. It provides a solid, powerful framework of rules that allow you to build and play in your own action-adventure settings.

PowerFrame excels at games in which civilisation is tenuous, travel is treacherous, and creatures are dangerous – fantasy worlds, frontier societies, the post-apocalypse. Characters often have humble beginnings, but can develop into epic action heroes.

Features:

  • Simple uniform system built for multi-genre mashups!
  • Tools for creating your own game resources!
  • Point-buy character creation allows for flexible development!
  • Detailed wilderness travel and hexcrawl system!
  • Effects-based magic – build spells from their components!
  • Modular subsystems you can tailor to suit your campaign!
  • DRM-free interactive PDF, designed for ease of use at the table!

PRINTED BOOK DISCOUNT: The book includes the PDF at no extra cost. If you have already purchased the PDF and now want to get the book, you are eligible for a discount – please contact me at PowerFrame(DOT)RPG(AT)gmail(DOT)com.

This is an awesome rpg for those who like to tinker with rpgs. Awaiting my print copy now. Thinking about doing a review on my YT channel.

I'm heavily interested in your system, though I'd like to get a print copy when the latest errata are applied. Do you have an estimated time frame for those errata to be included in the print version?

Hi Jojo, thanks for your interest! It is probably going to be two or three months before I can release a new print version. While it's easy to update the digital PDF, the print version takes longer as I need to order and review a new proof copy, which itself takes about a month.

As you've likely read elsewhere, I'm making a few minor adjustments to Mysticism as I work on a Spell Companion. Currently all of the v1.2 updates are limited to the Mysticism chapter. I'm creating multiple pre-built sample spells for every Major Arcana, and with over 100 of those it's going to take me a little while to get through. Once I do, I'll lock down and update the v1.2 PDF and POD versions, and release the spell supplement as a PDF too.

For an indication of progress: it's now one week later and I've written up examples for almost half the Major Arcana. If I keep up this rate I should have them all done in another week, then add a few days or a week to integrate the revisions into the Core Rulebook files. It can take 3 to 7 weeks to receive the new print proof (the first took just over 3 weeks), and barring any major errors I'll be able to make it live immediately after the proof arrives.

I think this might be a good fit for Coreline: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?161399-CORELINE-%28D20-Modern-D20-BESM-Setting%29 I might just have to check this out.

If you're looking to make this open, I'd suggest just using the OGL promulgated by Wizards of the Coast. Just specify what, if any elements, you wish to retain as product identity.

I'd personally go with CC, specifying which parts are not covered by the license, such as pictures, proper nouns and so forth. OGL, IMHO, is good for what it does, but it's on its way out. Now that the OSR community has realized that the OGL isn't necessary to create the content that they want to make, lots of publishers have stopped using it. It's a nice feeling knowing that Hasbro doesn't get a say in what goes on in your company.

I'm sorry to say that I downloaded the primer and forgot to read it until I got your email about the core release. Such is what happens when you're distracted by a toddler. I really like how you managed to capture the spirit of JRPGs without going overboard with complex rules. Lots of games just come up with a generic rules set and paste anime-inspired art into the book. You've got a solid, crunchy system that's not too complex.

Just a quick question: Are you going to allow people to write supplements for this game? Or accepting freelance submissions?

Thanks for the feedback! I would love for people to create and sell their own supplements and get a customisation community going, but I'm trying to figure out the right license for it. I have to figure out if applying a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license to the whole game system will do what I want.

Hi MGL, glad you like it! I have some discount links set up that are linked to purchaser IDs. Having reviewed the recent sales, I'm pretty sure this one should work for you (and anyone else who's purchased a PDF between 30 Aug and 15 Sep):

http://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?discount=9b6c8589b8

If you have any problems, let me know. I'll also update the product description so the ID-locked links are more easily accessible. It's just a shame I can only enter a limited number of IDs for a discount, so I had to create multiple codes.

If you're asking about a community creation license such as OGL or CC, no, I haven't officially added one. But I am happy for anyone to make their own content using PowerFrame, and if someone gets in contact regarding something they've made I will almost certainly give permission to produce and sell material so long as it isn't in questionable taste.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
