Let's be honest: most RPGs suck at simulating the high stakes, give-and-take, threaten-and-cajole world of court intrigueThe Eternal Dance is explicitly designed for it, so you can play games in the worlds of Game of Thrones, Dune, House of Cards, Mad Men, or similar high-stakes situations where swinging a sword won't do you much good.

The Eternal Dance is an improv game of court intrigue. It requires no dice rolls or randomizers. You create characters that have strong needs, alliances, and relationships, and the game provides scenes, crises, and a structure for your play.

This release includes PDF, Mobi, ePub, and azw3 releases for all major eReaders.

Here are the basics of the game:

The players decide on the basic setting of the world: genre, factions, conflicts, etc.

Each character is made up of a name, at least 2 needs, a faction, resources, and relationships. Relationships consist of the name of another character, a noun describing the relationship, and an adjective describing the relationship's specific character (e.g., Passionate Lover of John or Desperate Blackmailer of Clayton).

The game is then played as a series of scenes. The first scene involves all the characters and a challenge that they face. The game then proceeds in "pair scenes" with two players apiece until every player has been in 2 pair scenes. Then a major crisis occurs that involves all the players, which is followed by pair scenes, and ends with a scene involving all the characters.

Each type of scene has specific triggers to end it.

The rules include a play sample, character sheets, suggestions for adapting 4 well-known pop culture worlds to the game, and 2 original playsets with sample characters and locations: a Mafia playset and a fantasy playset.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
